About Virginia Beach Contender

Virginia Beach Contender was founded in October of 2006 by David H. Akridge Jr. in order to provide large high performance offshore sport fishing boats to the Tidewater Area. Mr. Akridge seized an opportunity to bring the Contender Boat line here after recognizing that no one in this area sold the best sport fishing boat made (Contender). After some research, and after talking to top anglers in the area, he discovered that this was a serious opportunity, and one that had been ignored in the area for years for reasons unclear.

After moving to the Tidewater Area in 2003, Mr. Akridge  also recognized a serious need for customer focused marine related services. As a boat owner himself, it was always very difficult getting companies to show up for service; and then most wanted to service only their own customers - those who purchased boats from them.

Having run businesses for other people, and having a passion for salt water fishing and boats, this opportunity lined up perfectly. After all, if you do what you love to do, you will be very successful in any field. For Mr. Akridge, great customer service and customer satisfaction is personal.
